Chomper

This set has 3 20-minute cardio workouts called The Sizzler, The Broiler, and The Incinerator. I think they are all in the 20 seconds of work, 10 seconds rest format, and he does not repeat exercises unless it's to do it on the other leg kind of thing. Near the end of the workouts, he starts to make you do isometric holds during the 10 second rests. A nice range of bodyweight cardio exercises. A lot of high impact, but there are some low impact exercises. I love crab variations, and there are plenty. I would not recommend this to someone who wants low impact workouts, because they would have to modify too many exercises.

For most of these workouts, he is alternating vertical cardio with horizontal cardio, to keep you moving up and down and keep that heart rate high. I think it's called peripheral heart action- get the blood flowing in the lower body, and then the upper body, and back down again.

The workouts move by at lightening speed, since the exercise change every 30 seconds (except for the last 5 minutes, when you do isometric holds during the rest periods and it starts to feel like it will never end!)

The coolest part is the bonus workout called The Mobility Maximizer. It is 30 minutes of mobility exercises for your body from head to toe. It is not just standing there rolling your ankles and knees. It is stretching and moving around in the stretches. He hits your shoulders, chest, wrists, upper back, triceps, hips, knees and ankles. I am not aware of any other workout like it on dvd.

Whether this feels like Tabata training (20 seconds on, 10 seconds off) will depend on how conditioned you are. Ways to make the workout harder: do the more difficult variations, go faster.

I enjoyed the workouts a great deal, but am dealing with foot pain and haven't been able to do them very often.

BJ Gaddour is still a total goofball, but also very knowledgeable and demonstrates great form.
