Reviews from VideoFitness
This is a review for gMax 35 Sports Agility.
For more information about the gMax 35 program and Steve Gilbert, please read my review of Total Body Challenge 1.
Main Menu: with music, without music
Exercisers: Steve does the work out with 2 women and 1 man. These background exercisers look more energetic and engaged than the background exercisers in Total Body Challenge 1. All of them are fit looking and are wearing athletic clothing that is black and royal blue (the theme colors for the set).
Setting and Music: the set is a dark gym setting this is well lit. In addition to the equipment, there are lighted metal panels in the background. The music is not particularly loud and is instrumental with a techno/rock vibe.
Equipment: none needed. Steve and crew have a couple of puzzle mats directly in front of them.
Warm Up: jog in place, butt kickers, high knees, half jacks, side to side squats, squat jumps, shoulder rolls forward & back, neck stretch, angled neck stretch, triceps stretch, biceps/chest stretch, shoulder stretch, side stretch, cross leg IT band/glute stretch, quad stretch, downward dog, hamstring stretch, standing knee pull w/ ankle rotation.
Main Workout
The main workout is comprised of sports drills and is divided by "sport'.
Basketball : jab & shoot, cross & shoot, rebound & outlet, defense shuffle, repeat all previous drills, squat figure 8 dribble, squat catch & dip
Soccer : jog in place, high knees around imaginary ball, quick foot v-cuts, imaginary ball taps in a circle, repeat all previous drills.
Volleyball : Side to side w/ bump, dig to push-up to spike
Dodgeball : tuck jump w/a 180 jump, quick water break, repeat
Abs/Core : rope climbers (35x), seated bicycles (30 secs), cobra, child's pose
Football : Karaoke/grapevine drill, 3 point stance to mountain climbers to fast feet to high knee run with tackle, run w/ lateral leaps
Cool Down/Stretch (3:18): quad stretch, wide stance forward fold, eagle pose, pigeon pose, child's pose.
Overall Impressions: I really liked this workout. I enjoyed the concept of the different sports and the drills corresponding to the sport. Just when I was getting tired or bored with the present sport we moved on to something else. While this is definitely a predominantly cardio workout, there were some push-ups and some core work to bring in a bit of strength work. As done by Steve and the crew this a high intermediate/low advanced workout. Unfortunately there are no modifications shown for the jumps or impact. While a seasoned exerciser will be able to come up with low impact modifications, I would be fearful that the workout would lose some of its"fun factor.
Steve is encouraging yet low key and calm in this workout.
